Understanding Current Weather Conditions in GHNP

Planning a trip to the Great Himalayan National Park? Knowing the current weather conditions in GHNP can make all the difference to your adventure. The park, known for its elevation range—from 1,500 meters to over 6,000 meters—experiences significant weather variation year-round. Whether you’re coming for trekking, bird watching, or camping, it’s essential to prepare according to seasonal shifts.

In spring (March to May), the weather is relatively mild. Snow begins to melt at higher altitudes, making it ideal for trekking and exploring the lush ecozones. Day temperatures range from 12°C to 20°C, while nights can still be chilly. This season also brings blooming rhododendrons and active birdlife.

Summer (June to August) sees warmer days, with temperatures often reaching 25°C in the lower areas. However, this is also the monsoon period, with moderate to heavy rainfall, which can make trails slippery and risky. It’s advisable to check real-time weather updates for GHNP before venturing into remote areas.

Autumn (September to November) is considered the best time to visit. Clear skies, crisp air, and minimal rainfall make it ideal for all outdoor activities. Daytime temperatures hover between 10°C to 18°C.

Winter (December to February) brings heavy snowfall in higher zones. While lower areas remain accessible, trekking routes may be closed. Daytime temperatures can drop below freezing at higher elevations.
